JJD were requested to provide emergency resources to assist Mythen Construction and Wexford County Council in the making safe and stabilisation of a mid-terrace property in the town of New Ross, Co. Wexford. The rear wall of the property had collapsed, and there were fears that the remaining property would potentially collapse onto the main street. After a detailed risk assessment of the building was completed by JJD, we mobilised a skilled crew of demolition operatives to remove the roof and internal walls of the building by hand. Due to space restrictions, work could only be completed from overhead, with these operatives working from a man cage attached to a self-erect tower crane and a Z135 MEWP. The first task was to remove the asbestos slates from the roof of the building. The main roof structure was then removed.
As the works progressed the building was continually monitored and assessed to ensure no further damage could occur. Upon removal of the roof, a propping arrangement was designed and installed, to brace the party walls and the front façade. This arrangement was installed at each level as the demolition progressed to provide continued support to the structure as the works progressed.
Upon completion of the demolition and install of the temporary bracing, all waste material was removed from the building, and left safe for the client to proceed with future planned works.
