As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality work, we offer a comprehensive plant hire service with machinery that can meet diverse requirements. Safety is of paramount importance to us, and we are dedicated to achieving the highest standards in this regard. We strive for zero accidents onsite by conducting regular site audits and investing in extensive internal and external training programs. Our Health & Safety Officer provides in-house training for various areas, including abrasive wheel handling, manual handling, working at heights, harness and lanyard inspection, and MEWP instruction.

John is currently the Managing Director of JJ Duffy Construction Ltd. He holds a degree in Construction Management from WIT and brings over 20 years of experience in the demolitions and civils industry in Ireland.

After completing his degree, John began his career as a graduate engineer with Ascon. He then worked as a freelance setting out engineer before joining the family business, where he had previously worked part-time since his teenage years.

For almost 20 years, John has been fully committed to JJ Duffy, working on a diverse range of demolition projects with values ranging from €5k to €1m. His responsibilities include daily client interactions, tendering for new projects, recruitment, and the implementation of rigorous health and safety policies to ensure the safe management of all projects.

With his extensive knowledge of the demolition industry, John holds positions in the Irish Association of Demolition Contractors and serves as a board member of the European Demolition Association. He takes a hands-on management approach, actively overseeing all aspects of the demolition process and being personally involved in each project on a daily basis.

Recognizing the importance of modern equipment and specialized attachments, John has made significant investments in the company. This ensures that JJ Duffy has access to the latest plant machinery and a wide range of demolition attachments, guaranteeing that the right tool is always available for the job.

James has 20 years of experience in the construction industry and currently holds the position of Contracts Manager at JJ Duffy Construction Ltd. He obtained his qualification in Construction Management & Engineering from WIT. Throughout his career, he has gained significant expertise in managing building and engineering construction projects in Ireland, Australia, and the USA.

During his time in the industry, James has been involved in various aspects of construction, including sewerage and drainage. He has overseen the construction of gravity and rising sewer pipelines using conventional excavation methods, as well as trenchless techniques, particularly micro tunneling. Additionally, James has extensive experience in constructing deep shaft excavations, both in situ and using precast and sinking caissons. He is also well-versed in constructing precast and cast in situ pumping stations.

In recent years, James has focused on managing demolition and alteration projects of different complexities, from the planning stage to project completion. His responsibilities encompass preplanning consultation, tendering, negotiating new works, and overseeing contract works and final accounts.

James excels in coordinating multiple subcontractors and stakeholders for his projects. He is adept at obtaining authority approvals for detailed construction works. His site experience has provided him with a solid foundation and a thorough understanding of the requirements necessary to efficiently manage projects within budgetary constraints.

Martin hails from Roscommon, where he completed all of his education. He then traveled to London and commenced working for MVB, which specializes in tunneling. He worked his way up from general laborer to pit top banksman, and then to a TBM tunnel boring machine as a minor. He was involved in the Lee Tunnel Project, a 4-mile tunnel that runs under water and ground through East London. It carries sewage from London’s largest combined sewer overflow (CSO) at Abbey Mills station to Becton STW. The CSO at Abbey Mills receives 40% of the sewage discharge in London.

On his return from London, Martin commenced working for JJ Duffy in 2014. He started as a machine operator, driving and operating all kinds of machines from 180 and 360 excavators to crushers, screeners, and MEWPs. Martin has used his vast experience to train others how to use and care for all of these machines, and over time has worked his way from operator to supervisor to project manager.

Martin intends to continue to progress his career by attending the CIF ISOH Safety for Construction Managers Programme along with other courses.


James has been with JJ Duffy for 5 years, starting out with the business as our Plant Mechanic. Having completed his apprenticeship in Agricultural Mechanics with Meath Farm Machinery and IT Tralee James brought an extensive knowledge to the business regarding plant and large machinery. In this role James proved himself to be key member of the team, successfully managing and maintaining our extensive plant equipment.

As a newly appointed Project Manager James is looking forward to progressing his career at JJ Duffy. His strong work ethic and ability to communicate and drive teams on site coupled with his extensive knowledge of plant provides us confidence that the client needs will be delivered.

Conor commenced working with JJ Duffy in 2017, after completing his B.Tech in Construction Management at TUD. Since then, Conor has worked on several projects, acting as a site engineer and supervisor, managing the day-to-day running of projects.

Conor has gained experience in managing resources on projects to effectively maintain the program of the works, along with planning out the works to ensure that they are completed safely and to the required specification.

Over the last number of years, Conor has also continued with his professional development by obtaining additional training and education such as the IOSH Managing Safely and the CIF PSCS course. These have helped Conor gain a more detailed understanding of the legislative requirements of effectively managing demolition works.

Riaan joined JJ Duffy in 2019 as a General Operative, gaining valuable experience across a range of projects. Demonstrating dedication and expertise, he quickly advanced to the role of site supervisor, effectively managing day-to-day operations and ensuring the smooth execution of projects according to plan. Throughout his work, Riaan developed a strong awareness of the potential hazards and risks associated with the industry, sparking his keen interest in health and safety practices.

To further enhance his knowledge and skills in occupational health and safety, Riaan embarked on a part-time college program at the Communication Management Institute (CMI). He successfully obtained his Certificate and is currently pursuing his Diploma, deepening his understanding of best practices and regulations in this field. Riaan’s continuous commitment to professional growth and his passion for ensuring a safe working environment make him an invaluable asset to our team.
