POLICIES
It is the policy of John J Duffy Construction to promote high standards of health, safety & welfare that comply with The Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005, (The Act), with the intention of promoting a safe working environment that will, sofar as is reasonably practicable, ensure the safety, health and welfare of all employees of John J Duffy Construction Ltd and other individuals at the place of work.
This policy outlines safe systems of work & workplace site hazards in order to outline any duties/ procedures for John J Duffy Construction Ltd to follow so as to comply with any relevant legislation, in particular:
- The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 (The Act)
- The Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 -2021
- The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007-2020
- The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Chemical Agents) Regulations 2001 -2015

- Code of practice for Avoiding Danger from Underground Services. 2010
- ESB Code of Practice for Avoiding Danger from Overhead Electric Lines, 2019

It is the intention of John J Duffy Construction Ltd to comply with relevant legislation and provide employees, contractors & other parties with a safe working environment & also to protect those who may be affected by our activities. All interested persons will be expected to comply with policies & procedures as detailed in our Safety Statement.
We are committed to prevention of injury & ill health to the safety of our staff & we are committed to ensuring the safety of visitors, clients & contractors on our various sites/workplaces under out control.
It is the policy of management at John J Duffy Construction to:
- Manage and conduct work activities so as to ensure the safety and health of employees.
- Prevent improper conduct likely to put an employee’s safety and health at risk.
- Provide a safe place of work which is adequately designated and maintained.
- Provide safe plant, equipment and machinery.
- Provide safe means of access and egress.
- Provide safe systems of work, e.g., operating procedures.
- Prevent risk to health from articles or substance (including plant, tools, machinery, chemical substance and equipment).
- Provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision, taking account of the employee’s capabilities, when an employee begins work or is transferred to new task, and when technology is introduced.
- Provide suitable protective clothing and equipment where hazards cannot be eliminated.
- Prepare and revise emergency plans.
- Designated staff to take on emergency duties.
- Provide and maintain welfare facilities.
- Provide, where necessary, a competent person to advise and assist in securing the safety, health and welfare of employees.
The senior management at John J Duffy Construction ltd have planned & established measurable objectives & targets based on the Health & Safety Policy. These objectives are regularly reviewed & measured to ensure they reflect the activities of the company.
Management also strive to build on the health & safety management system we have achieved through a process of continuous improvement.
Our Safety management system is Safe-T Cert accredited & sets the standards implemented across all our sites.
John J Duffy Construction Ltd promotes a responsible & proactive approach to environmental & waste management at every level of the business & on all sites of operation. The environmental management system and policy of John J Duffy Construction ltd will be monitored in line with the EPA’s BEST PRACTICE GUIDELINES for the preparation of resource & waste management plans for construction & demolition projects.
The policy encompasses:
- External and internal issues of relevance to the Company
- Requirements of the Company’s interested parties
- Environmental compliance obligations
- All products and services relating to the Company’s customers.
- Environmental control and influence where possible
John J Duffy Construction Ltd will operate an environmental policy in which we will pursue the following objectives.
To:
- Conduct our activities with proper regard to the protection of the environment.
- Comply with all relevant regulatory and legislative requirements and codes of practice.
- Communicate with local communities to ensure the work causes the minimum disturbance and disruption.
- Ensure that our staff have a good understanding of the environmental impacts of our business and what is expected of them to minimise these impacts.
During the early stages of the project the following activities will be carried out to deal with environmental Management:
- Preparation of the Demolition Waste Management Plan
- Preparation and consultation with client and statutory authorities to obtain approved licences and consents for discharge and putting the stated consent conditions and controls in place through the Project Environmental Plan.
We are committed to continually improving our environmental performance & managing our operations to minimise potentially adverse impacts on the environment. It is the individual responsibility of all persons working for on behalf of John J Duffy Construction ltd to support & apply this Environmental Policy.
John J Duffy Construction Ltd are proud to be registered with the Voluntary Construction Register (VCR), formally CIRI. This is the only register of companies in Ireland that is vetted by Government nominees & industry professionals.
The VCR has been setup to help members of the public find competent & experienced construction practitioners.
The VCR registration ensures compliance with the building regulations, industry code of ethics, Health & Safety regulations, tax compliance & recognises a proven track record of competence & experience within the construction industry.
By registering with the VCR John J Duffy Construction Ltd is committed to delivering excellence in every aspect of our work. We are committing to a robust continuous learning system & knowledge sharing.
This strategy is developed to ensure company support is provided for the individual to take responsibility for relevant CPD training therefore keeping skills current.
This policy will be reviewed annually in line with business requirements & appropriate CPD best practice.
